Thanks to everyone who contributed to the very first National Design Day. You proved how creative we all are, and helped to reward those who D-serve praise for supporting South African design.

The Department of Arts and Culture recognises the value of design in building the economy. Design adds value to products, gives products the competitive edge and has the capacity to create jobs, thereby contributing to the economic and cultural well-being of our country.

The concept of Design-Day is a commendable one, it is clear that effective campaigns will increase the profile of design in the minds of the public, especially the young and the design illiterate where serious inroads must be made.

I would like to commend and endorse D-Day on the 25 February 2005.

We suggest that more stakeholders like design colleges and design companies be involved in this exciting venture.

Yours sincerely

Z PALLO JORDAN, MP
MINISTER
